SIFL TIE BREAKER FORMULA

If at the end of the Regular Season, two or more teams finish with the same won-loss percentage, the following steps will be taken todetermine playoff seeding:

TWO TEAMS

  1. Head-to-head (best won-loss percentage in games between the teams)
  2. Best won-loss percentage in common games.
  3. *** Best combined rankings among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  4. Best net points in common games.
  5. Best net points in all games.
  6. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  7. Coin toss.
THREE OR MORE TEAMS
  1. Head-to-head
  2. Best won-loss percentage in common games
  3. *** Best combined rankings among all teams in points scored and points allowed
  4. Best net points in common games
  5. Best net points in all games
  6. Best net touchdowns in all games
  7. Coin toss
IF two teams remained tied after a third team is eliminated during any step, tie-breaker reverts back to Step One of the Two-team format.

*** The combined rankingis derived by adding a team's position in the two categories, and the lowest score advances. If team A is first in points and second in points allowed, it's combined ranking is "three", and if Team B is third in points and first in points allowed, it's combined ranking is "four"'and Team A wins the tie-breaker. If two teams are tied for a position, both teams are awarded the ranking as if they held it solely. For example, if Team A and Team B are tied for first in points, each team is assigned a ranking of "1" in the category, and if Team C is third, its ranking will still be a "3"
