LAKE CHARLES, LA (JUNE 30, 2010) – Columbus Lions wide receiver Gerald Gales, Lafayette Wildcatters defensive lineman Eric Phillips and kicker Sean Comiskey have been named as the Southern Indoor Football Leagues Offensive, Defensive, and Special GalesPOWTeams Players of the Week for the 15th and final week of the season.

For the third consecutive week, a Columbus Lions wide receiver has brought home the SIFL’s Offensive Player of the Week with Gerald Gales (6’0 185, West Alabama) bringing home this week’s dubious distinction.  With his 7 receptions for 139 yards and two touchdowns, Gales finally put an end to teammate Lonnell Dewalt’s two-week reign as the Offensive POW.  He also helped Columbus land their first victory over in-state rival Albany on the year, making the Lions and their season ending three game winning streak the hottest team heading into the 2010 playoffs.

Columbus will have a first round playoff date with the Lafayette Wildcatters on Thursday July 8th, and a big key to making that match-up happen was due to the big play of this week Defensive Player of the Week in Eric Phillips (6’8 320 Southern Miss).  On Saturday, his sack and fumble recovery was the deciding factor in the Wildcatters thrilling 31-30 win over their ‘I-10’ rivals.  The win gave Lafayette the sweep over the Swashbucklers and more importantly the overall number third seed in the SIFL 2010 setting up a rematch between his club and the Lions on July 8th.

Earning his second nod as the Special Teams Player of the Week is Lafayette Wildcatters kicker Sean Comiskey (5’9 170, UL-Lafayette).  In the Wildcatters season finale game against the Swashbucklers, Comiskey notched seven points, including a perfect 4 for 4 in PAT attempts as well as a 35-yard field goal.  After winning the award back in Week 12, this is Sean’s second SIFL honor.

Offensive Player of the Week candidates includes: Lafayette QB Juan Joseph (14-33, 144 yards, 3 total TD’s), Louisiana QB Freddie Harrison (11-31, 122 yards, 4 TD’s).

Defensive Player of the Week candidates includes: Columbus DB Damian Daniels (3.0 tkls and 2 INT’s), Albany LB Larry Edwards (5.5 tkls, 1 FF, and 2 sacks), and Louisiana DL Eddie White (3.0 tkls, 2.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks, and 1 block).

Special Teams Player of the Week candidate includes: Columbus K Trey Crum (5-5 PAT’s and 1-4 FG’s).
