By: Matthew Hester LAKE CHARLES, LA (January 22, 2010) – Even before the 2010 season kickoffs, the Southern Indoor Football League has signed the Augusta Mavericks as their first expansion club for the 2011 season. In an effort to bring integrity, stability, and continuity to a sport that has left the city of Augusta numerous times, the Augusta Mavericks vow to re-introduce indoor football to the city and return to the gridiron in 2011. Behind the leadership of Erick Moore, the Augusta Mavericks will officially begin playing in 2011, but this season the Mavericks will introduce themselves to the city of Augusta and the SIFL with two exhibition home games with a possibility of more. “Due to the need of additional arena contract negotiations between team management and the James Brown Arena, we will introduce indoor football back to Augusta this season,” says Mavericks Owner Erick Moore. “We realize we were being a little ambitious to carry out everything that was needed to bring our team to Augusta in such a short time frame, especially since Mr. Hager and I only met the week before Thanksgiving,” continues Moore. “In the meantime, we are excited about the team and the opportunity to give Augusta a little taste of what to expect, first hand, this year as we get involved in the community and bring a full season of football to the city in 2011,” added Moore. Moore, who took over the Augusta franchise after the club voluntarily sat out in 2009 season as the Augusta Colts due to financial reasons, eagerly wanted to bring football back to the great city; home to some of indoor football greatest fans. The club has had two tryouts both previously at the Augusta Sports Complex and will be holding another at the same location this Saturday, January 23rd, at noon. As far as the clubs expected 2010 exhibition games, no dates have been scheduled as of yet. “We have strongly supported Mr. Moore and his efforts to place a franchise in the city of Augusta,” says SIFL President Thom Hager. “We are greatly pleased they have already set their sights for the 2011 season with the SIFL.” For more information about this and more, be sure to log onto www.southernifl.com.
