By: Matthew Hester LAKE CHARLES, LA (January 21, 2010) – Information that the new arena football franchise, the Albany Panthers led by potential owner Andre White, and Southern Indoor Football League President Thom Hager expressing that the two sides were coming to terms in order to play football in 2010 last week were incorrect. Early last Tuesday morning, an article describing that “SIFL, White make up; deal ’85 percent” are completely inaccurate but information describing that SIFL President Thom Hager secured a new owner in Mr. Rod Chappell was stated correctly. “Andre White is out and we have a new partner in Rod Chappell,” says SIFL President Thom Hager. “After failing to meet the criteria to join the SIFL, we decided to go another route so that franchise in Albany can have an opportunity to suit up and play in 2010.” The criteria that Hager speaks of include financial statements that were never submitted, membership fee was never paid, and no monthly dues were made. After the falling out between White and Hager, the SIFL last Wednesday secured a new owner who has the intention of putting together a franchise in Albany that will play football in 2010. “We are set to move forward with Mr. Chappell,” continues Hager. “Chappell has his financials in order and has met all our requirements to become an official owner in the Southern Indoor Football League.” All systems are a go for the city of Albany as Assistant City Manager Wes Smith has approved the takeover of the franchise to Mr. Chappell. Other rumors that the franchise would be switching to the American Indoor Football Association were completely false as the city of Albany decided beforehand to select the SIFL as the league to host the future Albany indoor football team. Even though the season is a mere two months away from starting, the club has filled front office positions including the hiring of Will Carter as the General Manager. Carter was once the Team President of the now defunct South Georgia Wildcats. The club is expected to hire a head coach within the next week or two as well as begin filling roster positions.
